We met with experts to plan the next steps of the GATE research on 4 April 2025, from 14:30 to 16:30 CET, hybrid - hosted by ZKE, Olshausenstrasse 75, 24116 Kiel, Germany

The GATE team is happy to share the successful completion of our inaugural GATE Research meeting, which took place on April 4th 2025. This meeting marked a significant milestone in our journey to enhance capacity building in Open Science.

During the meeting, three key experts shared invaluable insights and outlined strategic suggestions to propel the GATE analyses forward:

1. Tim Errington (COS) proposed using qualitative data, both existing and from literature, to explore themes and relationships without imposing a strict top-down taxonomy. This approach respects the diversity of Open Science experts and aims to provide a deeper understanding of themes in Open Science through continuous engagement.
2. Daniel Mietchen (FIZ) introduced ideas for formalizing data using advanced methods like knowledge graphs and nanopublications, enhancing comparability and machine readability. He advocated using diverse, controlled vocabularies and proposed structured responses in GATE services to simplify data processing.
3. Bernhard Thalheim (CAU) focused on robust modelling, user profiling, and clear knowledge definitions to structure and present data effectively. He emphasized understanding the target audience and suggested creating various report versions tailored to different reader segments, ensuring good data quality to achieve optimal outcomes.

With this information, the GATE team will try to build a collaborative research idea following a holistic approach to evolving the GATE research process, allowing the GATE to become a comprehensive and versatile service for the Open Science community.
